Each day brings more and more new reports of the spread and impact of the novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19). Habitat for Humanity of Orange County is taking a proactive stance on the COVID-19 outbreak in order to keep our staff, homeowners, volunteers, and donors safe. Please see below for the latest updates.

Office Closure

Our administrative office in Chapel Hill will be closed to outside visitors until further notice as we encourage our staff to work remotely. Staff are working toward moving in-person meetings virtual to decrease exposure. Our team remains committed to our mission and keeping operations as normal as possible during this time.

Construction Site Closure

The construction site will be closed to all volunteers through the end of March, at which point we will reassess the construction schedule. Our volunteers are at the heart of Habitat’s work, but we feel it is in the best interest of both our volunteers and our construction staff to decrease exposure.

To keep up with our construction timeline as much as possible and get waiting families into their homes, our construction staff will continue to work on site at this time with extra precautions in place.

Upcoming Events

Events originally planned over the next few months will be assessed on a case-by-case basis as the situation evolves. Our High Heels and Hard Hats Fashion Show originally scheduled for April 17 has been rescheduled for Saturday, August 29. We hope you will join us on this new date! Visit www.orangehabitat.org for any updates on our homepage banner about upcoming events.

Impact on Homeowners

The health and well-being of our community is the most important factor in making these decisions. We also know that a lack of funding could lead to a delay in moving our homebuyers out of substandard conditions and into safe, stable housing. Your financial support is especially appreciated during this time of uncertainty as we work to continue serving our homebuyers, many of whom are especially vulnerable to the impacts of this crisis.

This is a dynamic situation, and we will provide updates as we have them. If you have any questions, please reach out to us at info@orangehabitat.org or visit www.orangehabitat.org/covid19 to check for updates. Thank you for your support of Habitat for Humanity of Orange County, and we look forward to continuing to partner with you!
