Shack-a-thon: 2016 Summer Olympics

April 23, 2016

3:00pm-5:00pm | Southern Village Green | 600 Market St. Chapel Hill, NC 27516

Due to the rain, Shack-a-thon will be postponed. Stay tuned for a rain date!

Come support Youth United at this family friendly event! High school students will participate in an Olympic-themed shack building competition to raise money and awareness of affordable housing. The cardboard shacks illustrate the poverty housing that many local families still live in. The funds raised for the event will go towards building a home for Faith Freebird and Andreas Fleckenstein. You can read their story here

The competition is reserved for high school students that pre-register and fundraise a minimum of $40. Students can create or join a team/country here. Each country will compete to win the most medals and bask in international prestige as their national anthem plays on the Southern Village Green for all to hear.

Community members can build shacks alongside students in support of cause and country. Please wear clothing that represents your country of choice. The event will also include Olympic-themed fun and games such as relay races, face painting, music, and a bouncy house.
