January’s volunteer of the month is a familiar face to many in our Habitat community, Doug!

Doug volunteers weekly as one of the regulars on the Habitat jobsite. Our construction team relies on him to do skilled work and lead other volunteers. To date, he has donated well over 1,000 hours of his time! Doug also volunteers abroad. Since 2017, he has served on three trips to help build Habitat homes in both Honduras and Guatemala.

When he’s not on the jobsite, Doug chairs Habitat’s advocacy committee, leading our efforts to advocate for affordable housing at the local, state, and national levels. Doug is also part of our annual NC delegation to Habitat on the Hill, where he visits with leaders in Congress and encourages them to support affordable housing. Doug also helps to guide Habitat's long-term strategy as a member of our Board of Directors since 2018.

In December, Doug was awarded the Jim Gibson Volunteer of the Year award by the Chapel Hill Carrboro Chamber of Commerce. Congratulations, Doug!

Thank you, Doug, for your time and dedication to Habitat!
