Brief Timeline of Orange Habitat

Orange Habitat has accomplished a lot in its 40 years of building homes, communities, and hope. See below for a short timeline of highlights over the years!

1984: Orange Habitat is founded and run by a group of volunteers out of Binkley Baptist Church

1987: The first home built in the Chesnut Oaks neighborhood in Chapel Hill is dedicated 

1992: Susan Levy is hired as the first Executive Director and paid staff member

1998: The first House Party fundraiser is hosted at the home of 

2002: The first parcel of land is purchased for Weavers Grove

2003: The first mortgage is paid off during the affiliate's 20th fiscal year

2006: Construction begins on the first homes built by Habitat in the Fairview Community in Hillsborough

2010: A Brush with Kindness, now known as the Home Repair Program, is created. Orage Habitat has since repaired nearly 250 homes in Orange County

2016: Construction returns to Chapel Hill in the Northside Neighborhood for the first time in 10 years

2021:Orange Habitat dedicates its 300th in Orange County and 50th home build in the historic Northside Neighborhood in Chapel Hill
