The Daye family has lived at their house on Tulip Tree Drive in Hillsborough for generations. Brothers Milton and James currently reside in the family home. Health challenges have left the brothers unable to perform upkeep and maintenance on their home, so sisters Shirley and Bernice stepped in to help their brothers and applied for Habitat for Humanity of Orange County’s A Brush With Kindness (ABWK) program.

Terry Rossmell, her family, and her coworkers at contributed financial and volunteer support to this repair. Milton, James, Shirley, and Bernice worked alongside volunteers to repair the family home.

Repairs to the Dayes home included replacing storm doors on the front and back of the home, pressure washing and painting the house, replacing the plywood ceiling at the back porch, replacing the rear porch light, replacing down spouts in the back, and yard cleanup. Check out photos from the repairs here.

The Dayes are a tight knit family and repeatedly expressed their joy at participating in ABWK. They knew they couldn’t have done the repairs themselves and said the help was “a blessing.”

The Habitat team was excited to return to Tulip Tree Drive where we have built nearly 20 new Habitat homes.
