Home Builders Blitz: Constructing 4 Homes in 10 Days
On March 18, Habitat for Humanity of Orange County kicked off a Home Builders Blitz in the Weavers Grove neighborhood in Chapel Hill, where four Habitat homes will be constructed from start to finish in just ten days.
Founded as a means to include local builders in Habitat’s mission, the Home Builders Blitz condensed build schedule allows affiliates to build more homes without overextending capacity or significantly increasing overhead. This year’s event is made possible by the three home builder partners alongside Habitat for Humanity; BuildSense, Trinity Design/Build, and Bost Custom Homes. These partnerships have come together, in collaboration with the Home Builders Association of Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.
“The Home Builders Association of Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties has partnered for years with our local Habitat affiliates through Home Builders Blitz,” said Holly Fraccaro, CEO of the Home Builders Association of Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties. “Community is what it’s all about. Our community that is here today to help make this happen over the next 10 days is BuildSense, who has been a long-term supporter of the blitz build, Bost Custom Homes, who is new with us to do a blitz but has done them in another county and super excited to have them in Orange County, and a brand new blitz builder, Trinity Design/Build. Thank you so much for being a yes.”
With construction costs continuing to rise, innovative solutions like a Home Builders Blitz are essential to continuing Habitat’s mission to build safe, affordable homes in Orange County.
“The impact this blitz is going to have on our construction efforts is huge,” said Jesús Gutierrez, Project Manager for Habitat for Humanity of Orange County. “With donations from our build partners and vendors, we are saving at least 50% of our costs to build these homes as well as getting ahead of our construction schedule. Families who have been waiting for over a year will become homeowners in a matter of days.”
