AmeriCorps

About AmeriCorps

AmeriCorps is a federal agency that connects people with opportunities to serve their community and address the most critical issues faced in the country. During their 10.5 months of service, our AmeriCorps Members will focus on direct service work. This means that they are doing the hands-on work involved with building community, programs and (of course) housing. While the majority of our positions are on our New Home Construction and Home Preservation Teams, we do have a Volunteer Engagement and a Homeowner Services position.

Why AmeriCorps?

AmeriCorps members are a vital part of how we are able to meet the need for affordable homeownership opportunities in Orange County. In addition to the knowledge that the work they are doing every day is helping to build a better future for their community, AmeriCorps members are able to take on new and exciting challenges that will help them build their skillset and sense of self-confidence.

Other benefits include, but are not limited to:

  • Segal Education Award upon completion of service to help pay for college, graduate school, or vocational training, or to repay student loans
  • Forbearance for federally backed students loans – after you successfully complete your term of service, you are eligible to have the interest incurred during service paid in fulll
  • Skills and training
  • Living allowance
  • Healthcare
  • $800 FT / $400 PT housing stipend (paid by Orange Habitat)

Meet an AmeriCorps Member Jeshika

Jeshika is a second-year AmeriCorps member serving as the Volunteer Engagement Coordinator for Orange Habitat. Service has always been a fundamental part of her life and knew from a young age she wanted to give back to her community.

Each morning, she starts her day on-site, setting up the volunteer table and welcoming our dedicated volunteers, from individuals to Regular Crew to corporate groups. Throughout the day, she also manages communications, coordinate schedules, and ensures everything runs smoothly for our volunteers. What she loves most about her role isn’t just the work, but the people. The volunteers, staff, and community members that she gets to collaborate with make every day meaningful.
