Meet an AmeriCorps Member: Jeshika
Meet Jeshika, a second-year AmeriCorps member serving as the Volunteer Engagement Coordinator for Orange Habitat. Service has always been a fundamental part of her life and knew from a young age she wanted to give back to her community. Her first day of orientation for AmeriCorps term happened to be her 18th birthday, beginning a new chapter of service.
“I have always admired the incredible work Habitat for Humanity has done for families around the world,” said Jeshika. “When I learned more about Habitat’s mission and the lasting impact it has on people’s lives, I knew I wanted to be a part of that change. Through AmeriCorps, I found the perfect opportunity to contribute to Habitat’s mission in a hands-on, meaningful way.”
Each morning, she starts her day on-site, setting up the volunteer table and welcoming our dedicated volunteers, from individuals to Regular Crew to corporate groups. Throughout the day, she also manages communications, coordinate schedules, and ensures everything runs smoothly for our volunteers. What she loves most about her role isn’t just the work, but the people. The volunteers, staff, and community members that she gets to collaborate with make every day meaningful.
“AmeriCorps has been instrumental in my personal and professional growth. Personally, it has deepened my perspective on service and reinforced the importance of grassroots efforts in creating meaningful change,” said Jeshika. “Through my experience, I have gained a greater appreciation for the impact AmeriCorps members have in communities across the country. My work with Habitat for Humanity and involvement in organizing events have strengthened my leadership, communication, and coordination skills. More than anything, this experience has shown me how service and volunteerism are fundamental to our society—bringing people together and helping communities grow stronger through collective action.”
While we’re sad to see her go after her term ends late summer, we’re excited for her next career move and working toward becoming an Attorney. “My AmeriCorps experience has shown me the profound impact that accessible housing has on individuals and communities, and I am dedicated to continuing that work in any way I can.”
