National Homeownership Month: Weavers Grove Update
June is National Homeownership Month, and we have a lot to celebrate! The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) recognizes National Homeownership Month as an opportunity to show the current administration’s commitment to supporting affordable homeownership. Here at Orange Habitat, we believe everyone in Orange County deserves a decent place to live. We achieve this through our new construction and home repair programs.
Three main factors contribute to the current national housing crisis: affordability, availability, and accessibility. At Habitat, we aim to support mortgage-ready residents looking to buy their first home through mortgages designed to be no more than 30% of the household’s income. Habitat will build 20 homes per year at Weavers Grove, a mixed-income community close to public transportation, quality education, and the county’s largest employers.
Less than a year after beginning construction, we’re hitting many milestones at Weavers Grove. The first market-rate homeowners will move into the community this month as Garman Homes has its first closing. 19 Habitat homebuyers have been approved for the homeownership program with an additional 14 households completing homebuyer orientation for the most recent cohort, pictured here. White Oak Properties is close to purchasing its first of three lots from Habitat to build condominium buildings. The first of many amenities, the playground, is also under construction. See this progress come to life in our recent drone footage.
