Orange Habitat receives a $50,000 grant from Truist Foundation for Weavers Grove
CHAPEL HILL, NC (Jan. 29, 2024) – Habitat for Humanity of Orange County announced they received a $50,000 grant from Truist Foundation to benefit the Community Center at Weavers Grove.
“We extend our appreciation to the Truist Foundation for its $50,000 contribution toward the Community Center at Weavers Grove,” said Jennifer Player, President and CEO of Orange Habitat. “Thanks to their generous support, this space will come to life, fostering neighborly interaction and gathering spaces that support all families and children. Together, we are building a brighter future, one brick at a time.”
Weavers Grove is a mixed-income community offering affordable homeownership to Habitat families as well as market-rate homes. Buying a home at the lower end of the market is difficult in Chapel Hill. Of the 238 single-family homes, townhomes, duplexes, and condominiums, 102 will be Habitat homes owned by people who live or work in Orange County. The remaining market-rate homes will offer new opportunities for Chapel Hill homebuyers, at or slightly below today’s median home price.
At the heart of the community will sit a Community Center. This, among other planned amenities, is designed to support interaction among a diverse set of homeowners, fostering a thriving community where people feel a sense of belonging and connection. In this space, the community will gather for Homeowners Association meetings, pot luck dinners, and programming offered by community partners The YMCA of the Triangle and B3 Coffee.
“Truist is excited to partner with Orange Habitat to support construction at Weavers Grove. The creation of this community aligns with our purpose to inspire and build better lives and communities,” said Jordan Clark, Triangle West Market President for Truist. “The unique economic and social impact of Weavers Grove helps to create a wealth-building asset with scale that will have a large impact to Orange County. We are excited to support financially but equally as excited to provide financial literacy support for years to come.”
Construction began at Weavers Grove in July 2023. Construction on the Community Center is set to begin in 2024 and the whole community to be completed by 2028.
