Skill Share: Homebuyer Teaches Fishing Class
Last month, we hosted our very first Homebuyer-led workshop—or “Skill Share”—and it was a fantastic success! Habitat homebuyers Jason and Eric stepped up to teach a session on fishing basics. Their passion for the outdoors and willingness to share their knowledge created a fun, hands-on experience for everyone who attended.
Events like this aren’t just about learning a new skill, but about building community. Events like these are an important way for homebuyers to earn community-building sweat equity hours. These hours can be completed by participating in activities that encourage and foster social connections, a cornerstone of building strong and supportive neighborhoods. Other opportunities to earn these community building sweat equity hours include community group build days and potlucks.
A few weeks later, the momentum continued with a photography skill share, this time hosted by a market-rate homebuyer, demonstrating how all members of our community can contribute to the vibrant network we are building together.
These Skill Shares remind us that the Habitat family is more than the homes we build—it’s about the relationships and support networks we foster. When homebuyers share their time and talents, it enriches the entire community.
We look forward to hosting more skill share events in the future!
