Spring Clean with Purpose: Support Your Local Habitat for Humanity ReStore

March 21, 2024

As we embark on our spring-cleaning endeavors, seize the opportunity to impact our communities positively. Donating or purchasing gently used items from the ReStore declutters our homes and contributes to sustainable practices. Last year, more than 5,000 tons of usable items were donated that might otherwise would have ended up in landfills.

The Habitat for Humanity ReStores accepts tax-deductible donations to resell to the public, offering a hassle-free process with free pick-up options for most large items. They accept so many items that it is easier to list what they will not accept. The ReStore also has a brand-new cabinet program, allowing anyone to purchase custom cabinets at an affordable cost. In the Triangle area, Habitat for Humanity has ten ReStore locations. Two are in the Orange County area: one in Durham-Chapel Hill off 15-501 and another in Hillsborough off US-70 and N Churton Street. You can also help by volunteering at the ReStore. Volunteers work alongside staff, assisting customers, accepting donations, and ensuring the store remains organized and welcoming. By supporting the ReStores through donations, purchases, or volunteering, you directly contribute to Habitat for Humanity’s mission of building affordable housing for families in our community.
