Tropical Storm Chantal: Recovery Continues

August 26, 2025

Earlier this month, we took Spectrum News around to share some of the work we’re been doing to repair flood damaged homes. Chea and her husband Stan have lived in their home in the Weatherhill Pointe neighborhood in Carrboro for nearly 20 years. And in those 20 years, there has never been extreme flooding in this area. FEMA even declared the area non-flooding area, so she canceled her flood insurance 8 years ago. Then, Tropical Storm Chantal hit. Click here to watch the full Spectrum News interview.

Habitat for Humanity was one of the first on the ground in the Weatherhill Pointe neighborhood offering assistance on 12 homes like Chea’s across Orange County. We’re now providing flexible, tailored repairs for flood-damaged homes, including dry-out services, demolition, and repair. Flood-related repairs are expected to take three months or longer per home and will cost 66 to 233% more than our standard projects.

The road to recovery is long. We will need all your hearts, hands, and gifts in the months and years to come.
