Volunteer Spotlight: AmeriCorps Day of Service
Earlier this week, we hosted a special Day of Service on our construction site. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is a day to honor Dr. King’s legacy and to encourage people to volunteer in their communities. While usually closed on Monday’s, individuals were able to spend the Day of Service volunteering on our construction site.
Six AmeriCorps members from Orange and Durham Habitat’s had an even busier day; their morning started at the Rotary Club’s annual meal-packing event, where they joined dozens of volunteers to assemble nutritious meal kits for families in need. The afternoon was spent building together at Weavers Grove. Click here to see photos from the day.
AmeriCorps is the federal agency connecting individuals and organizations to tackle the nation’s most pressing challenges. Most AmeriCorps positions serve 10.5 months with hands on work on our new home construction, home repair, volunteer management, or homeowner services teams.
Their work embodies the spirit of service not just on this Day of Service, but every day.
Thank you, AmeriCorps members, for your time and dedication to Habitat!
