Volunteer Spotlight: Community Building

May 22, 2025

At Habitat, a build day is more than just swinging hammers—it’s a chance to connect, reflect, and grow together. This month, two special build days reminded us just how strong and enduring our community really is.

In one gathering, Habitat office and construction staff members came together on the build site for a day of hands-on teamwork – an event we take part in a few times a year. What made this particular build day special from the rest was the addition of several former staff and board members who joined us, pictured here. These longtime supporters helped lay the foundation for where we are today, and it was a joy to work alongside them once again. Their return was a powerful reminder that the Habitat mission continues to live on in the hearts of those who’ve helped shape it.

In a separate event, future and current Habitat homeowners came together for a special community build day. This type of build is hosted regularly to bring these residents together to get to know each other better alongside building their own and future neighbors homes. For some, it was their first time meeting other families in the program while for others, it was a chance to reconnect with neighbors.

These build days were a beautiful reflection of what makes Habitat unique: people coming together from different chapters of the journey to build homes, community, and hope.
