Volunteer Spotlight: Home Repair Demolition

October 29, 2024

At Habitat for Humanity, our typical volunteer shift involves building new homes at active construction sites. However, unique opportunities occasionally arise that allow our dedicated volunteers to engage in different, yet equally important, projects. One such initiative is our Home Preservation Program, which supports affordable homeownership by preserving existing homes in Orange County.

Recent efforts included a team of our Regular Crew members, who usually focus on new builds, taking on the task of demolishing a deteriorating deck at a Chapel Hill home. The deck, riddled with rotting wood and loose nails, presented safety concerns. In just a few hours, our volunteers successfully removed the deck, allowing the preservation team to rebuild it.

This initiative not only showcased the adaptability of our volunteers but also provided a significant cost-saving benefit. By handling the demolition themselves, they freed up funds for essential repairs, ensuring the homeowner’s safety and comfort.

As we continue our mission to build and preserve homes, we are grateful for our volunteers’ flexibility and commitment. Their willingness to take on diverse challenges exemplifies the spirit of Habitat for Humanity, reinforcing our dedication to ensuring everyone has a decent place to live.

Thank you, Regular Crew Volunteers, for your time and dedication to Habitat!
