Volunteer Spotlight: Robin Mullis and Susan Sullivan
Robin first came to Orange Habitat over 10 years ago with her church and began volunteering with the Regular Crew in 2023. Susan joined the Regular Crew just about 3 years ago. Both have volunteered consistently during this time and, in the past few months, have formed new friendships while volunteering.
A few months ago, Robin and Susan were paired together to work on closets at Weavers Grove. With it being a smaller space, the two of them figured out how best to work together. “I really look to Susan because she has a lot of skill and confidence, and it’s nice to be paired with someone you know who can help you figure it out,” said Robin. “And we have fun!”
After a few shifts of working together, they were able to figure out a flow that worked for them, and spend more time chatting as the construction came naturally. “I really like the dynamics of working as a pair because we start out on a project, and eventually we work it out and figure out who was good at what part of the job and complement each other,” said Susan. “Along the way, you talk, and you get to be friends! You find out about life on a personal level as your putting in screws and measuring things. As you learn what you are doing you don’t have to talk about construction as much and can connect.”
Now, these two look forward to the days they are able to be paired together, growing their friendship and sharing construction knowledge along the way!
Thank you, Robin and Susan, for your time and dedication to Habitat!
