Volunteer Spotlight: UNC – Youth United Builders Blitz

April 24, 2024

When striving to meet the ambitious goal of constructing 20 homes annually, the power of teamwork and community spirit truly shines. Last month, Orange Habitat called in reinforcements in the form of our dedicated youth volunteers, who went above and beyond to make a significant impact.

Despite facing rain and mud, over 100 students from the UNC Chapel Hill collegiate club and the Youth United high school club came together for a two-day blitz at Weavers Grove. During this blitz, the students accomplished an incredible feat: they framed the entire first floor of two homes. Their dedication and determination not only accelerated our progress but also exemplified the spirit of unity and service that lies at the heart of Habitat for Humanity.

“We were so thrilled to see such an outpouring of support for this blitz,” said Volunteer Engagement Manager Ansel Prichard. “We put the word out to UNC Habitat and local high school clubs, and they certainly answered the call. We had so many people trying to sign-up to volunteer, that we actually had to turn some groups away. If we learned anything, it’s that next year we’re going for 4 homes!”

Their efforts serve as a powerful reminder that when we join forces and work together toward a common goal, we can achieve remarkable things. Orange Habitat is immensely grateful for the invaluable contributions of these youth volunteers and looks forward to continuing to build a better future alongside them.

Thank you, UNC and Youth United volunteers, for your time and dedication to Habitat!
