40 Years: Thank You for Celebrating our Past
As 2024 comes to an end and we celebrate all we have built together this year, we also celebrate the impact our affiliate has had in Orange County in our 40-year history. Founded in April of 1984, our earliest days relied on grassroots community engagement and volunteerism before our first staff member, Susan Levy, was hired in 1992. From bartering for building supplies with carpet to raising millions of dollars in one year, we’ve come a long way as an organization. Thank you for being part of our history.
As we celebrate our past, we reflect on:
- 343 homes built across Orange County
- 351 home repairs completed
- 354 international projects funded
- 580 children who have grown up in Habitat homes
- 30 mortgages paid off
- 12 Habitat neighborhoods created
To commemorate our 40th anniversary, we hosted a breakfast featuring Habitat for Humanity International CEO Jonathan Reckford this February. The breakfast included a panel discussion with former Executive Director Susan Levy and current President and CEO Jennifer Player. We also launched our 40 Voices of Orange Habitat series, featuring 40 people – from volunteers to homeowners to donors to community members to former staff – who have been part of our history and shared their stories and memories.
As the year comes to a close, we are looking forward to building our future as we close on our first homes at Weavers Grove and prepare for Auman Village, coming soon to Hillsborough.
Thank you for being part of our year-long celebration and helping us build an even stronger future!
