Make a gift to support Pope Leo Village!
We’re honored to announce the launch of Pope Leo Village, an initiative made possible by an anonymous donor inspired by Pope Leo’s vision of community, service, and shared humanity. This generous contribution will help fund the construction of eight new townhomes within our Weavers Grove neighborhood in Chapel Hill.
“In that service to others we may find that coming together in friendship, building up community, we too can find true meaning in our lives.” — Pope Leo XIV
The Pope Leo Village project also aims to inspire new and increased philanthropic investment in affordable housing and draw young people into meaningful, hands-on service. In that spirit, Orange Habitat will be actively engaging student volunteers from UNC-Chapel Hill and local high schools as well as volunteers from local faith communities.
Construction of the first three townhomes is slated to begin in June 2026, and we expect to break ground on the remaining five in September.
Once complete, the homes will be purchased by people living and working in Orange County who complete Orange Habitat’s homeownership program, providing long-term stability and the life-changing benefits of affordable homeownership.
Join thousands of donors across the country putting their faith into action by supporting the creation of Pope Leo Village communities. Your gift furthers the impact of this initiative, enabling us to partner with families and individuals in Orange County to build their forever homes.
Volunteer opportunities for Pope Leo Village will open up starting this summer, when construction begins on the first three townhomes. Stay tuned for details!
Weavers Grove is a visionary mixed-income community in Chapel Hill developed by Orange Habitat in partnership with market-rate builders. When complete, the neighborhood will include 102 Habitat homes and more than 100 market-rate houses and condominiums developed by Garman Homes and White Oak Properties.
The Pope Leo Village partnership encompasses eight Habitat duplexes in the northeastern corner of the neighborhood.
