Weavers Grove

Weavers Grove is a mixed-income community offering affordable homeownership to Habitat and to market-rate homebuyers. Buying a home at the lower end of the market is difficult in Chapel Hill. Of the more than 200 single-family homes, townhomes, duplexes, and condominiums, 102 will be Habitat homes owned by people who live or work in Orange County. The remaining market-rate homes will offer new opportunities for Chapel Hill homebuyers, at price ranges lower than today’s median home price.

Orange Habitat acquired the first parcel of land in February 2002 and slowly acquired five more parcels over the next 18 years. In June 2020, the Town of Chapel Hill Town Council approved Weavers Grove and a formal groundbreaking took place in October 2021. Volunteers began construction at Weavers Grove in the Summer of 2023 and the development is expected to be complete in 2028.

Meet a Homebuyer Tabitha and Jason

Tabitha and Jason have wanted to purchase a home for a while and can’t believe they are finally able to do so in Chapel Hill. The couple has had roots in the area for a long time. Jason grew up in Chapel Hill, and while Tabitha is from Selma, she is a UNC Chapel Hill graduate and has lived in the area ever since. The couple met through work at the time and were married in 2006. They had their daughter, Lady, a year later.

Tabitha has spent her career working with children and wouldn’t have it any other way. She spent 16 years at the Chapel Hill Cooperative Preschool, and currently works for Chapel Hill Carrboro City Schools in the Equity and Engagement Department. In her role, she works not just with the children but provides resources and support to the whole family. Tabitha enjoys working for a great school system that her daughter also attends.
